Tips for the IELTS Speaking Test

The night before the test

  • Have a good healthy dinner. Don't drink alcohol or too much coffee. Go to bed at your normal time.
  • Pack all things you need to take with you to the IELTS exam, for example, the test registration form, passport, test number, pens, pencils, erasers, etc.
  • Set your alarm clock the night before or arrange a wake-up call.

On the morning of the test

  • Have a good healthy breakfast. Eat something you're familiar with. Don't try new food today.
  • Wear a watch in case you cannot see the clock in the exam room. It is necessary that you know how much time you've got left during the exam.
  • Arrive the test center early at least 1 hour before the test starts. You will have to complete a registration form and to show your passport before you enter the examination room too. If you are late, you will not be allowed to enter.

During the test

  • If you feel uncomfortable with your seat location whether it is too cold or too dark. Ask the person in charge to do something about it or you may ask to change seats.
  • Don't feel nervous. Focus and focus!
  • Have a positive attitude even if you miss many answers. If you really don't know what to answer, just guess. It's better than nothing.
